If I Could Bang My Air Conditioner I Would

By: Bobby Finstock on 06/11/08 @ 7:12 am

Up until yesterday I have lived my entire life without living in a house with air conditioning. Wait let me change that, I have lived my entire life without air conditioning except living in one apartment with an air conditioner but my housemate always took the window unit and put it into his bedroom at night depriving me of air conditioning goodness after wetting my appetite during the day by having it in the living room… that son of a bitch. (That may or may not be a run-on sentence.)

For some reason I had a bias against air conditioning.

protable air conditioner

1) I felt that throughout the entire existence of humanity that they dealt with sweltering heat without the help of a machine that creates cooler air. Why the hell do I need one? If I bought an air conditioner I would be a total pussy.

2) On top of that I felt that it was something only rich people had. In my mind air conditioning was a status symbol of the proletariat and in my personal class struggle I would be selling out by purchasing an air conditioning unit. It was a slippery slope that I wasn’t sure if I wanted to navigate or not. If I purchased an air conditioning unit the next thing I would be buying is fancy cigarette holders and Grey Poupon mustard. The last thing I ever want to be is elitist.

3) They are bad for the environment. If I do things that are bad for the environment I won’t be able to sleep with freaky hippy girls anymore… But then again I won’t have their armpit hair clogging my shower drain. This is actually a toss up. I probably shouldn’t count it.

Well I have to say that this bias was completely unfounded and that I am a total idiot for waiting this long to purchase an air conditioner.

After four days of humid and sticky weather that was well into the 90s I went to Home Depot and plucked down some money for a portable air conditioner. I can move this unit around the house making my existence bearable. Last night I got a full night of sleep for the first time in four days and I have to say I want to make love to that environment damaging, elitist, new fangled contraption that has turned me into a pussy.
I learned that putting my personal comfort in front of everything else is the American way and I’ll be damned if I do something un-American.

Now it is your turn, justify something that you have recently done that you were once opposed to doing.

This is going up at humor-blogs.com.

This heat is a beast. I, too, have lived my life without an air conditioner. Even when my mom gave 2 air conditioners last year, I refused to use it. I broke down and put those bad boys in my window on Sunday.

2 air conditioners in the living room = freezer.

I still can’t sleep with them on though, my bf sleeps in the living room but I sleep in my bedroom without the AC. Its just too much for me at night.

This is the first place I have lived that has Central Air, it’s evil and perfect and I’m not afraid to use it. I somehow justify it by keeping my toaster and smoothie maker unplugged. Probably not a fair balance.

LOL I managed to somehow get through the first 34 years of my life without A/C also, despising the way it made my sinuses feel boggy. Then last year I was diagnosed with MS and, of course, hot and sticky are NOT known to play nicely with MSers….. I finally broke down and went to Home Depot and plucked down some money on a portable A/C, also, and it was the best money I ever spent in my life. Great minds think alike? Don’t you just love that PORTABLE feature, too?

PS: I don’t want to make love to mine, though, and “pussy” or not, I had no choice but to sell out, or else be completely and utterly bedridden and nearly comatose for about 4 months of the year……

I live in Colorado where AC units ARE elitist. If you want cooled air, you get a swamp cooler (which are totally evil). This ungodly box sits on your roof and whines like a two year old who’s missed his nap. It gives you a head cold and doesn’t cool the house AT ALL. I was lucky enough to have mine struck by lightning two summers ago…a testament to the fact that God doesn’t like swamp coolers either and wants me to suffer for having one.

I don’t even know what a swamp cooler is.

FYI:

Freon burns your wiggly. Be very careful where you stick your penis into the AC unit.

Don’t ask me how I know this.

As for something I’ve recently done that I was opposed to doing: Coming to work. I F*CKING hate this place.

Does that count?

On 06/11/08 at 3:19 pm
Kevin said:

Yes we will count that… And I will without a doubt be avoiding sticking anything anywhere near there.

I’m with Big P. I’ve never lived in a house without AC. Living in Oklahoma and Texas kind of makes that decision for you.

It’s hot in Oklahoma? I just image that Oklahoma is just there with tornadoes… I had no temperature prediction for it.

Where I live a “heat wave” is like four consecutive days of 80-90 degree weather in a row, so an air conditioner is excessive here. If the days get really hot, like you know, 96 or anything, we hang out at the mall for the afternoon and go home when the fans will be effective. However I lived in Ohio when I was a kid and I can’t remember being able to live in the summer if you didn’t have an air conditioner so if I were in a place where hot weather was the norm, I would definitely be in line at Home Depot with my environment eater.

Yeah it has been miserable.

That is what tore me up about all this. I know that I am going to use it a limited number of times per year but I guess it is better than misery I am dealing with right now.

Air conditioning makes me human, and allows me to have sex with my partner. Now how would all men in the world feel if their partners said — no sex because I am too hot and not in a good way!!!

Bring on the air - and break out the blow jobs is what I say.

My cave-in was moving to the suburbs and getting a lawn. I used to always sanctimoniously complain about how much water they suck up, and how much lawn mowers and edgers pollute the air. Now I obsess about the look of my yard and have used all appliances known to man to make it look nice. I am going to polluters hell.

I live in Indiana were the humidity is a BITCH. I also live in a house with NO a/c. Not for enviorment reasons. But I live in a historic area. The houses around here have a lot of natural wood. So having a portable a/c hurts the wood. We found one year. We never did it again. I want central air.

How can you have lived your whole life without AC? I’ve had it since I was born. But then again, I did grow up in South Texas and it is a living necessity. Kind of like Heat for you guys up north. I got my first heater when I moved to Minnesota last year. Prior to that, i thought it was for weaklings who couldn’t handle the harsh 50 degree winters we get. LOL. Boy, was I wrong. -40 is a good time to turn up the toasty toasty heat.

when i moved to florida, i thought it was SOOO neat that our apt had central air. i was moving UP in the world! then i learned that there IS no apt or house down here withOUT A/C. even the most ghetto home down here has A/C. without it, every dwelling would be rampant with mold due to the crazy ass humidity 300 days a year.
i do not, however have it in my car. i debate fixing it, (usually when it’s “winter” and it’s “only” 75 degrees, 20% humidity…heaven) then the big girl weather hits and i curse my sweaty deathbox all the way to work every day.

i haven’t done anything that i said i never would….recently.
