The 12 Days of Donkmas – The Toy Catalog

By: donkeysosa on 11/26/07 @ 12:44 am

In honor of the Christmas Season, over the next month I’ll be celebrating the 12 Days of Donkmas, writing about some of my favorite Holiday traditions when I was a child and even from today.  You WILL have fun reading them, or else…

Day 1 – The Toy Catalog

For some reason I totally forgot about one of my favorite things about Christmas when I was a kid.  But tonight it suddenly came back to me as I sat on the crapper making a yuletide log and glancing through a Brookstone catalog laughing at the overpriced garbage in there.

As I pinched off a loaf, I suddenly remembered how much I used to LOVE looking through those thick-ass toy catalogs that used to be put out by all of the major stores like Sears and JC Penney.  My family was pretty poor, so I knew that I wouldn’t be getting too much for Christmas.  But that didn’t stop me from circling toy after toy as I drooled all over the glossy pages.  I would spend hour after hour enraptured, dog-earing, re-reading and pondering the catalog like it was the frickin Torah.

Inevitably I would be disappointed by what I found under the tree Christmas morning, but that was OK too, because those big catalogs were great for something else as well: starting revenge fires in mom’s ‘72 Malibu.

Like Shakespeare? Milton? Beef Meximelts? Then DonkeySosa's for you. Donk's brilliant prose has been lighting up the Internets since the 1950s. That's right, the 50s - he's just THAT GOOD folks. Comedic geniuses such as Chris Rock, Dane Cook, and Carrot Top often turn to him for inspiration, and the ladies dig him because his case of micro-phallus makes for great chatter at cocktail parties.
