Make a Wish

I have to say that I love the Make a Wish foundation. Yeah it’s great that they give dying kids a request and all but that isn’t why I love them.

The whole thing to me is totally interesting because I like to second guess the kids. You always see specials or news articles or press releases where they talk about a kid getting his wish. But when you see what the wish is you really sit there and have to think to yourself that it wasn’t their first choice. There are two wishes that confuse me.

1) The celebrity meet and greet- I get a kid wanting to meet Shaq or Jessica Simpson, what gets me is when they show a kid meeting someone that they should have zero interest in. Like today Johnny met with Charo for his make a wish…. Really Charo?

I think the people at make a wish are doing a bait and switch. They probably have hundreds of kids that want to meet Jessica Simpson, but let’s say Johnny is blind or slips in and out of consciousness. Make a wish probably feels they can sub a Charo in there once and awhile and fly her under the radar, Johnny really won’t be the wiser.

2) They do a mundane adult thing- Once in awhile kids will get a wish that is a really mundane adult thing to do, like ring the opening bell at the stock market or manually masturbate a bull. I understand going to Disneyworld or going to the set of a major motion picture but are 9 year olds really dying to ring the bell at the stock market? (Whoops wrong use of words there.)

Do you think the people at make a wish go through applications and rate the illness? If the illness isn’t worthwhile enough they send the kid to the B-list wishes? There has to be some sort of politics involved.

I guess if it was me I would ask for a week long stay at the World Famous Bunny Ranch…
