Hi, Kev.

I don't get hockey. I truly wish I did. I played two years in gradeschool, but I was glad to quit.

Back and forth, and back and forth. It's noisy. Ice is not a natural or aesthetically pleasing environment.

Fights are spectacular, but they display the worst part of our nature. A player gets angry and reacts violently. One think I like about sports is how they are analagous to everyday life. But fighting in hockey bears no such analogy.

Hockey is a game of tactics, but not strategy. Any given moment is almost completely independent of any previous play. Basketball suffers from the same weakness, but not to the same extent. At least fouls build against a team and against a player. Plus, b-ball has many more moments of success(scores).

Regarding auto racing; I do consider it a sport. It is a game of skill and coordination, not chance. Success is the culmination of an entire team's efforts, in broadly ranging roles.

Anyway, this thread is almost two years old, but is the first that came up when I Googled "hockey 'I don't get it'". I'm here because I sincerely want to know--what do you like about hockey? I am Minnesotan. I WANT to like it. Please help me.

I don't get Nascar either. How is driving IN A CIRCLE nine thousand times a sport? Stupid. I think it's so popular because the redneck attention span doesn't allow for much more to be going on.

And yeah, I'm OK. Rough week, but I'm recuperating.
