Whatever happened to good music compilations?
(I am working on an extremely controversial blog for tomorrow, I thought it would be ready by today but it isnt. So its time for a list blog awww yeah)
On my way home from Vegas I was discussing with my friend Trista the best music compilation albums that have been released in our lifetime. Also how there hasnt been any that have been released in the last few years that we can think of. Here is my top five in no order:
No Alternative

Tracks:
1. Superdeformed – Matthew Sweet 2. For All To See – Buffalo Tom 3. Sexual Healing – Soul Asylum 4. Take A Walk – Urge Overkill 5. All Your Jeans Were Too Tight – American Music Club 6. Bitch – Goo Goo Dolls 7. Unseen Power Of The Picket Fence – Pavement 8. Glynis – Smashing Pumpkins 9. Can’t Fight It – Bob Mould 10. Hold On – Sarah McLachlan 11. Show Me – Soundgarden 12. Brittle – Straightjacket Fits 13. Joed Out – Barbara Manning And The San Francisco Seals 14. Heavy 33 – The Verlaines 15. Effigy – Uncle Tupelo 16. It’s The New Style – Beastie Boys 17. Iris – The Breeders 18. Memorial Tribute – Patti Smith 19. Laundry Room – Nirvana
Why: The single greatest version of “The New Style” ever recorded. Plus you had the right mix of bands at the right time.

DGC Rarities

Tracks:
1.Mad Dog 20/20 – Teenage Fanclub 2. Pay To Play – Nirvana 3. Jamie – Weezer 4. Never Too High – Cell 5. Beautiful Son – Hole 6. Bogusflow – Beck 7. Compilation Blues – Sonic Youth 8. Allegory – Murray Attaway 14. Don’t Tell Your Mother – The Sundays
Why: It shows off the muscle of what Geffen Records had when Grunge broke. Also they tried to use it to highlight some of their up and coming acts which failed miserably, which entertains me.
Thats What I Call Music Volume 1-78989909887

Track: Every pop/country/and shitty hip hop song ever.
Why: I am just kidding. I know when I go into a bar and their jukebox is littered with these that it is time to leave. Because there will always be the one white trash person that will begin to mix country and crappy hip hop. I dont need to hear a Toby Keith song (which would be bad enough) followed by 50 Cent’s Candy Shop. It happens way too often across this country and it needs to be stopped. I completely blame these cds for it and crystal meth.
Honorable mention: SFW soundtrack, Reality Bites Soundtrack, Sub Pop: The Grunge Years
What would you add onto the list?

The 80’s and 90’s were a good time for music. Almost every song on the radio was a hit. I miss those times.
