Thank God Will and Grace is Done

By: Bobby Finstock on 05/17/06 @ 2:20 pm

Tonight the end of an era happens on NBC. Will and Grace will no longer be in production of new episodes. Now before I continue on I want to say this about the show. I understand and give it respect for being a culturally important show. Will and Grace was as culturally as important as the Cosby Show was to blacks, as The Mary Tyler Moore Show was to single career minded women, and as important as One Day at a Time was to lecherous repairmen.

With it’s importance in perspective I can honestly say that Will and Grace was one of the worst sitcoms ever.

1) Debra Messing is not attractive.

Every successful sitcom ever had at least one attractive main female character. The Cosby Show gave you Lisa Bonet, Family Ties gave you Justine Bateman, and the Golden Girls gave you Bea Arthur. On Will and Grace we got Debra Messing the first actress ever with concave breasts. I’ve seen 12 year old…. Uh that isn’t a good line of thought. Let’s just say you could hang out at a food court and see bigger racks than hers.

2) Sean Hayes makes me want to rape a Koala Bear or listen to Megan Mullally read War and Peace.

The over the top Jack shit got annoying within three episodes. We get that he is a failure at everything and a man whore. The gimmick was funny but he never really evolved. Even Sam on “Cheers” stopped being a skirt chaser after a few seasons when they beat the joke into the ground. The thing is that he is so annoying that he made Karen played by Megan Mullally not as obnoxious as she really is. Her voice reaches an octave range that led to my neighbor’s dog dry humping my 4-year-old nephew (you should have seen what he was wearing he was asking for it) I can tolerate her because she isn’t as annoying as Jack.

3) Special Guest Stars

Stunt casting is the worst thing ever. You can tell shows are reaching when they do this. For examples see the last 4 seasons of Friends or the last 7 years of the Simpsons. Oh that’s right I went there. The Simpsons died the night they aired the episode where Homer annoyed Ron Howard. That was the death nail in the coffin and you can’t say the show has been half as funny since.

Will and Grace has been doing stunt casting for years and it is at the point where it has become a huge focus of the show. First of all who the hell thinks Harry Connick Junior has that much appeal to be a romantic lead? Do people really care about this guy?

Plus every new character introduced that has any type of story arch is a celebrity. That doesn’t speak to the quality product just the quality of casting. In fact it is down right annoying when the ads for the show are about who is showing up and not the plot line. When it isn’t about the show and characters it isn’t a good sign. For the record I don’t care that Alex Baldwin is showing up on an episode it isn’t going to make me watch.

Since when has Alex Baldwin being on anything been a draw?

4) The is he gay or isn’t he gay question of the actors.

I remember for the first few years of the show the talk on all the entertainment news shows were if the actors were really gay or not. I know one refused to answer the question while the other said he was straight. I can’t remember which is which and frankly I could give a shit. It’s nothing that is any of my business nor should it be an issue, it wouldn’t impact if I watched the show or not.

But hearing about it for years drove me nuts. It’s not a news story and it isn’t something that should be the focus of a show. They are actors. I don’t see them asking Tom Cruise if he really is a special agent. Then again any of those Hollywood “news” shows drive me nuts. They can turn anything into a story. It is kind of amazing actually. How come they never cover anything I actually want to hear about? I’m still waiting for a hard-hitting expose on whatever happened to Chainsaw from Summer School.

So I am asking all of you now to not watch the last episode of Will and Grace tonight. Instead I think you should all sit down and take the time to write to Entertainment Tonight and Access Hollywood asking… NO… TELLING THEM that you want a retrospective of the career of Dean Cameron aka Chainsaw from Summer School! There is power in number people imagine what we can accomplish if we work together!

Say it with me… Chainsaw! Chainsaw! Chainsaw!

Well here’s a short intro in the retrospective of the career of Dean Cameron- You know you can learn a lot through google. I found his website: deancameron.com. And he was actually on Will and Grace in 2001. He has this to say about his small role on Will and Grace:

Will and Grace - I was a guy who aksed another guy to marry me. (He said yes, by the way.) Originally I kissed Woody Harrelson, but I guess it made people queasy or something, so they got rid of that part. Go figure. It’s where I coined the phrase “Gay Player”.

How strange is that?!
