Vanessa: A Day in a ‘Fat Suit’!
November 15, 2005
Sixty-two percent of the women in the United States are overweight, and now ET is exposing the real world they live in every time they step out of the house.
Our own VANESSA MINNILLO underwent a startling transformation for our cameras and went undercover on the streets of New York City as a 350-pound woman to get a reality check on the every day prejudices facing America’s weight-challenged women.
“As someone in the public eye, I’ve dealt with my fair share of people staring at me,” says Vanessa. “But for the first time in my life, I found out what it’s like to have people turn away and avoid eye contact — in fact, do everything in their power to steer clear. It was shocking. It was hurtful.”
Vanessa underwent a five-hour transformation, which included gluing latex cheeks and a chin to her face — and even to her hands for authentic detail. Then, with the help of more than one person, she donned the fat suit and needed assistance to get dressed, not to mention the effort required to tie her shoes.
“Turning myself into a 350-pound woman was eye-opening,” says Vanessa. “I knew that I would be able to take the suit off at the end of the day, but I never knew just how much it would affect me the first moment I saw how I looked.”
Vanessa’s first destination was the Central Park jogging path to see how she would be treated as a heavy person trying to get a little exercise. “It was one of the most uncomfortable moments of my life,” reveals Vanessa. “There were quite a few moments I’ll never forget from the morning, like when a group of Italian joggers ran by me and I heard them say, in Italian, “grasso,” [which is] pretty easy to translate: gross, or fat. I knew this was not going to be an easy day.”
Vanessa was completely ignored at a ritzy store — not one salesperson would come to her aid — and when she stopped at a bagel cart to pick up a mid-morning snack, one woman couldn’t even contain her hostile stare. The construction workers weren’t exactly giving any love either: “The men who usually whistle and screech at any woman who walks by were not only silent — they practically broke their necks turning away from me.”
“Getting the suit and the makeup on may have taken a few hours out of my life, and it was not a comfortable experience,” concludes Vanessa. “However, not only do I have a new perspective on people with weight problems, it’s an experience I will never forget.”

This is a whole new trend that started with that one annoying supermodel that has a show, she fucked Chris Webber, and she is annoying. Yeah Tyra Banks…. That’s it… Another day time talk show that I don’t understand, I don’t care what a lesbian stand up comedian has to say why the fuck would I care about what a vapid supermodel has to say?

So now hot people have to dress like fat people to see how the other half lives. Give me a fucking break. Yeah dressing like a fat person for a day can really impact your life. Ugh… I shouldn’t even say they were dressing like a fat person. They were dressing like somebody that was morbidly obese, big difference. I don’t even know where to start here. This whole thing is so fucking vain and shallow. It’s so demeaning to the big boned, baby fat addled, and slightly overweight people of the world. And it is insulting everyone with an IQ over 7. What’s next…. Vannessa goes through an amazing transformation to look like someone with downs syndrome, or watch Vanessa transform into an elderly lady and not get the cat calls she so cherished.

First of all she wasn’t getting the cat calls that the construction workers usually gave her. No fucking shit. Really? They weren’t talking about how they wanted to give you a hot beef injection? Or how they wanted to butter your ass with shed spread country cock? No that isn’t a shocker… Investigative journalism at it’s finest here. If you listen real close you can hear the hot girl’s heart break as she doesn’t get a cat call… Awww those poor fat people…. They don’t get sexually harassed, what a shitty way to go through life.

So she went into a high end store and didn’t get help. It has absolutely nothing to do with being fat. Did you see what she was wearing? It looks like she was a housewife from Omaha that had no cash. Sales people could give a shit if you are fat, thin, black, white, tall, short…. They only care about if you are poor or rich. (I know that how you dress is not really indicative if you are rich or not but the generalization amongst sales people is what I am explaining here.) So when you come into a high end store dressed like that, yeah you are probably going to be ignored. It’s logic… But why would I expect such a fine show like ET to provide any of that.

As far as the hostile stare at the bagel cart… I mean I would be pissed too if someone is in front of me taking there time so they can get a reaction and judge how people are looking at them. Order your shit and get the hell out of way. Actually who am I kidding if I had a morbidly obese person ahead of me in line I would be pissed that they were going to order like seven of everything and leave me with an onion bagel.

So I guess this is the dawn of the whole “Really fat people are people too” era… Christ first they did it with women, then blacks, then…. Just kidding… I wanted to see how it felt to type like a republican.

Anyways it is rather disturbing to me that it is treated like some amazing piece of investigative journalism. Or that it is something that pulls on the heart strings because Vanessa can relate to the other 60f the population. Actually let’s be honest. She is a super hot girl so she really is relating to 97f the population. What they really should do next is give her radical plastic surgery and make her average looking and gasp maybe even ugly. Then see if she can get a real job with her existing skill set…. Now that is something I would pay to see.

i just want to say i think it was a good ides for supermodels to do this. it gives them a bit inner look at the way a obese person has to go through on a day to day basis. its not easy and its no picnic. no wonder teenagers want to kill themselves and have horrible self esteems, look at the way these wemon are treated. its ridicullous. To people who make fun of people here is some advice…keep your low life comments to yourself and think of someone besides yourself and how they’ll feel. everyone has feeling…big or little.
if i had one wish it would be that anyone whos ever called anybody else fat, that they gain 100 pounds and get get it off. then you see what its like to be hurting.
