The overwhelming amount of crime is committed because of moral bankruptcy, not poverty. The economic background of those who commit crimes in this country is of a higher strata than than the average working person in former eastern block countries. Sorry if that clashes with your "feelings" for those poor unfortunates. Also, maybe the reason that the people that we are referring to are in economic peril is because of they do not have the morale fiber to put in an honest day of work. There are exceptions of course. Yet the people who are receiving the federal benefits have a much higher crime rate than those who earn money on their own.It is easy to feel a certain way, but when the facts are contradictory to one's first instinct, it can be difficult.
