Things Everyone Should Know

So on my way into work today there was one of those roadside signs that the police use for traffic, [tag]amber alerts[/tag], etc…

The sign read “Help prevent auto theft” then it flashed “Don’t leave keys in ignition” ………

All I have to say is if you leave your keys in the ignition in general or a car running while you run into a store you deserve to have your car stolen. You are a fucking idiot.

The thing is though I think this would be rather obvious but the police department felt the need to post this. So that leads me to believe that maybe it isn’t obvious. It leads me to believe that people are rather stupid, and that they actually need to be told this. So here is a list of things that I consider obvious that maybe the general public does not. Consider this my good deed for the decade.

1) Don’t leave the extra key to your house under your doormat. It is pretty much the most obvious place on the face of the earth, if your house gets robbed because of it you should have to sell your house below market value and live in a cardboard box.

2) Never eat  KFC  because it is going to give you the shits. No matter how good of an idea you think it is at that time you will regret eating KFC…. You think it won’t happen but it will. And when you are sitting on the dumper you will swear off eating KFC but then you get the craving again 4-6 months later. I think it is biscuits.

3) Staying on fast food chicken…. If you are near a Popeye’s you are not in a good area. I have never seen a Popeye’s that wasn’t located in a shitty area. In fact I think it is a requirement while franchising. So if you are lost and see a Popeye’s you know you better lock the car door.

4) Water and electronics never mix… Period.

5) You can’t microwave foil…And yes the Philadelphia cream cheese wrapper is foil.

6) You can’t leave Chinese food sitting out in your apartment for more then an hour because the smell will never go away.

7) Wrestling is fake….. Just so you know.

I think I will add to this as I think of new things.

George Takei and his partner have been together for 18 years.

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) — George Takei, who as “Star Trek..’s” Sulu was part of the Starship Enterprise crew through three television seasons and six movies, has come out as a homosexual in the current issue of Frontiers, a biweekly Los Angeles magazine covering the gay and lesbian community.

Takei told The Associated Press on Thursday that his new onstage role as psychologist Martin Dysart in “Equus,” helped inspire him to publicly discuss his sexuality.

Takei described the character as a “very contained but turbulently frustrated man.” The play opened Wednesday at the David Henry Hwang Theater in Los Angeles, the same day that Frontiers magazine featured a story on Takei..’s coming out.

The current social and political climate also motivated Takei..’s disclosure, he said.

“The world has changed from when I was a young teen feeling ashamed for being gay,” he said. “The issue of gay marriage is now a political issue. That would have been unthinkable when I was young.”

The 68-year-old actor said he and his partner, Brad Altman, have been together for 18 years.

Takei, a Japanese-American who lived in a U.S. internment camp from age 4 to 8, said he grew up feeling ashamed of his ethnicity and sexuality. He likened prejudice against gays to racial segregation.

“It..’s against basic decency and what American values stand for,” he said.

Takei joined the “Star Trek” cast in 1966 as Hikaru Sulu, a character he played for three seasons on television and in six subsequent films. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1986.

A community activist, Takei ran for the Los Angeles City Council in 1973. He serves on the advisory committee of the California Civil Liberties Public Education Program and is chairman of East West Players, the theater company producing “Equus.”

This is even less shocking then whole Cherryl Swoopes story. Yet it is still on the front page of CNN.com… My god… I want someone totally shocking to come out. Something that makes me go “Holy shit really?”

Here would be my top five famous people that would shock me:

    1) Scott Baio- He reputation of nailing every girl in the history of hollywood precedes him.

    2) Tom Brady- Star qb on a super bowl winning team that nails starlets…. Actually he slept with Tara Reid that might be enough to make him switch teams.

    3) George Clooney- He is a total guys guy…

    4) Tom Arnold- Fat, annoying, borish… no way.

    5) Tara Reid- The biggest slut ever… I could see her playing the bi card to get attention. Maybe a drunken makeout session with Paris Hilton…

ONE MORE THING: Do you think CNN found the gayest possible picture for him? Seriously… I mean do you think they have a file just for pictures like that? Like if Brad Pitt came out they have pictures from “Legend’s of the Fall” ready to go?

Yale Bans Drinking Games for Harvard Game
By MATT APUZZO, Associated Press WriterThu Oct 27, 2:42 PM ET
Yale is banning drinking games from this year’s football game against Harvard and will shut down all tailgate parties after halftime — a move some alumni say could put a damper on one of college football’s oldest and most storied rivalries.
The rules to discourage binge drinking at the Yale Bowl will take effect Nov. 5, when Yale faces Brown, but they are clearly aimed at the most raucous event of the season — the Nov. 19 Harvard-Yale game.
The Ivy League contest, known simply as “The Game,” dates to 1875 and draws nearly as many fans outside the stadium as inside. Students and alumni fill U-Hauls with kegs, grills and hard liquor and set up elaborate buffets under party tents. Some parties serve up domestic beer; others offer champagne and shrimp cocktail.

“Our major concern is for the health and safety of our students,” said Betty Trachtenberg, Yale dean of student affairs. “Perhaps over the years those concerns had been lost sight of.”
Harvard tightened its rules last year, requiring wristbands to prove people were old enough to drink. The school also limits the amount of alcohol that can be brought into the tailgate area. Yale followed suit this week, issuing eight new rules.

Among other things, drinking games will be banned along with related paraphernalia, such as the tables used to play beer pong.
“We don’t want to send hordes of students to the hospital after each game. Drinking games are meant to get people drunk,” Trachtenberg said.

For alumni, the biggest change will be the early closing time for tailgate parties, said Patrick Ruwe, a 1983 graduate and the president of the Yale Football Association Board.

“I think it will have an effect on the character of the game, independent of alcohol, just for tailgating with families,” Ruwe said.
Brian Ameche, a 1975 graduate and former defensive end, said: “Unless you have a personal interest in the game — you’re a former player or you have a child who’s playing — it’s as much about the tailgating as it is about the game of football.”
Harvard athletic department spokesman Chuck Sullivan said the university wanted to prevent tailgating parties from spilling over into nearby neighborhoods. Last year, police issued a number of citations for underage drinking and threatened to ban student tailgating.
New Haven Police spokeswoman Bonnie Winchester said that while there have been no “remarkable” problems at Yale in recent years, the department welcomes Yale’s new rules.
    _________________________________________________________
Oh no tables……. So that means no beer pong, quarters or power cups… I guess that is going to put the kybosh on binge drinking at this years Harvard vs. Yale football game. Yeah… Um probably not.
So they can’t play those famous drinking games. I think they should start a few new ones for this weekends activities, here are a couple of suggestions:

    1) Guess who is on scholarship: Here is a game that involves people watching and the elitist snob attitude of going to Yale. Basically when a fellow student walks by people make the call if they are on scholarship or if their family is loaded. Someone simply asks them the question if they are on scholarship and whatever the answer is the loser drinks. Who needs a table for this type of fun?

    2) Who’s not an alumnus? For this you need a quarter, a string, and a piece of tape. Tape the string to the quarter and leave it out about 10-15 feet from your tailgating area. When people are approaching the quarter make a bet if they are alumni or really a douche bag local. If the person bends over to pick up the quarter yank it back… they are a douche bag local! The loser drinks yet again.

    3) Whose been date raped? Basically you wait for a girl to walk by that everyone in your groups knows. You all make claims on you think has date raped her and had her silenced with the threat of your parents money and the power of the secret society that you belong to. Again for the people who have got it wrong drink. However if more then one person dated raped her it is shots for all. Good times!

    4) Who has an illegal immigrant maid? Kind of like the guess who is in scholarship game. When a person approaches you make a guess whether or not they have hired an illegal immigrant as a maid and have paid her illegally under the table. When the party approaches you ask them what country their made is from? If they respond with a foreign country the losers drink. If they respond that they don’t have a maid you beat them within an inch of their life and explain they should be going to community college.
See who says you need tables and other drinking gadgets to binge drink and have fun?

NEW YORK (AP) — Houston Comets forward Sheryl Swoopes is opening up about being a lesbian, telling a magazine that she’s “tired of having to hide my feelings about the person I care about.”

Swoopes, honored last month as the WNBA’s Most Valuable Player, told ESPN The Magazine for a story on newsstands Wednesday that she didn’t always know she was gay and fears that coming out could jeopardize her status as a role model.

“Do I think I was born this way? No,” Swoopes said. “And that’s probably confusing to some, because I know a lot of people believe that you are.”

Swoopes, who was married and has an 8-year-old son, said her 1999 divorce “wasn’t because I’m gay.”

She said her reason for coming out now is merely because she wants to be honest.

“It’s not something that I want to throw in people’s faces. I’m just at a point in my life where I’m tired of having to pretend to be somebody I’m not,” the 34-year-old Swoopes said. “I’m tired of having to hide my feelings about the person I care about. About the person I love.”

A release from ESPN The Magazine about the story did not disclose the identity of Swoopes’ partner.

A five-time All-Star and three-time Olympic gold medalist, Swoopes is the WNBA’s only three-time MVP. She played for the Comets during their run of four championships from 1997-2000, but missed the 2001 season with a knee injury.

She said her biggest worry about her revelation is that people will be afraid to look up to her.

“I don’t want that to happen,” she said. “Being gay has nothing to do with the three gold medals or the three MVPs or the four championships I’ve won. I’m still the same person. I’m Sheryl.”

Swoopes led the WNBA in scoring last year, averaging 18.6 points. She also averaged 4.3 assists and 2.65 steals while making 85 percent of her free throws and playing a league-high 37.1 minutes a game.

She said it “irritates” her that no one talks about gays playing in men’s sports, but that it’s become an issue in the WNBA.

“Sexuality and gender don’t change anyone’s performance on the court,” she said. “Women play just as hard as guys do. We’re just as competitive.”

A player in the WNBA is a lesbian? I would have NEVER expected that. I am just shocked… amazed… just wow. This is the most shocking thing ever. It ranks right up there with someone the other day telling me the sky was blue.

Seriously what’s next? Is someone going to tell me that Pam Anderson’s breasts are fake? Or that babies don’t come from storks?
