Why is the handicapped stall the furthest away?

By: Bobby Finstock on 08/29/04 @ 9:11 am

I don’t get it. If you think about it logically the handicapped parking space is the closest to the store which makes sense. But in the bathroom the handicapped stall is the furthest from the door. Why?

Is it maybe a grudge that architects have against the handicapped? Like they are thinking, “Alright we’ll give you this but you are going to have to earn it.” Is it tradition? Maybe the first person that had to put one in was thinking, “Fuck em’  we’ll put it at the end of the bathroom.”

To be honest it doesn’t really bother me. I have only seen one truly handicapped person use a handicapped stall. Of course I was interested to see how it works. They wheeled in next to me when I was in a stall. I figured they would just shift from one chair to the other but instead this person put the breaks on the chair. Then it looked like the knelt on their own chair to piss into the bowl. It was very impressive. I guess it made me happy thinking they just didn’t slide over. Like it was a little daily pleasure to kind of stand and pee as opposed to sitting all the time.
